About the role

Role overview

Working closely with the CEO and leadership team, you will take full ownership of group accounting, financial control, liquidity, reporting and planning, ensuring the business has accurate financial information and robust, scalable finance processes.

Responsibilities

  • Take hands-on ownership of the accounting function, including journal entries, general ledger, bank and balance sheet reconciliations, and accurate recording of transactions across the group's entities.
  • Own the monthly close and consolidation process end-to-end, producing accurate management accounts, P&L, balance sheet and cash-flow reporting.
  • Maintain end-to-end oversight of financial flows across the business, reconciling them back to source systems and counterparties and maintaining strong financial controls and data quality.
  • Design, implement and automate accounting, reconciliation and reporting processes, improving accuracy, efficiency and scalability.
  • Own liquidity and treasury management, including cash and liquidity forecasting, funding requirements, balance sheet duration and proactive liquidity planning and monitoring.
  • Personally build and maintain the company's budgets, forecasts, management reporting and KPIs, providing a clear view of revenue, costs, headcount, capital requirements and profitability by business line.
  • Coordinate payroll, tax, statutory accounts and external advisers across group entities, ensuring financial and regulatory reporting requirements are met.
  • Work directly with Trading, Sales and Technology to reconcile financial and trading data, understand P&L drivers and continuously improve the quality of financial information.
  • Provide the CEO with clear, reliable and decision-ready financial information, taking ownership of financial issues through to resolution.
  • Continuously improve finance processes through automation and appropriate external support, while retaining ownership of the accuracy and integrity of the group's financial information.

Requirements

Must Have

  • Deep, hands-on accounting experience in a trading environment. You must be comfortable personally posting journal entries, performing reconciliations, running month-end close and producing consolidated management accounts.
  • Experience within a trading business, ideally a hedge fund, commodity trading firm, proprietary trading firm, market maker or digital asset business.
  • The ability to understand a financial process from transaction and source data through to the general ledger, management accounts and reporting, and continuously improve financial controls and data quality.
  • Strong experience with balance sheet control, liquidity management, cash forecasting, budgeting and financial forecasting.
  • A track record of building and automating finance processes. You should be comfortable doing a process yourself before designing how it can be automated or delegated.
  • Strong commercial understanding of trading businesses, including P&L, costs, capital usage, liquidity and return on capital.
  • The ability to move between detailed accounting work and commercial analysis: from investigating an individual reconciliation break to discussing business-line profitability and capital allocation with the CEO.
  • A strong sense of ownership and accountability for the numbers. If something does not reconcile or cannot be explained, you will be expected to investigate it and resolve it.

Personality

  • Highly proactive, pragmatic, and execution-oriented.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity and influencing without authority.
  • Commercial mindset with strong analytical skills and sound business judgement.
